As a certified B Corp, sustainability runs through everything we do. ‘Sustainable’ is a very broad word; to us being it means that we are operating in a way that takes care of people and planet, so that our beautiful artisan biscuits and baking kits bring joy whilst treading lightly on the earth.
Honeywell Bakes Sustainability Policy
At Honeywell Bakes we are committed to not only caring for the environment, but to lessening our impact on it. It is important that we all consider our actions in relation to the environment, and we do all we can to reduce our negative impact and increase the positive, no matter how small those changes may be.
We recognise that the steps we are taking may seem small, but they all add up and collectively really do make a difference.
Current situation, as of March 2026:
Energy:
- Electricity is the only energy source
- We now use a combination of on-site solar and ‘zero carbon’ energy.
- This is via our landlord, rather than through a direct contract. We are in regular discussions with our landlord, to ensure that the solar is utilised as best as possible.
- We are working with our landlord to ensure that the contract for ‘top up’ electricity from the grid remains renewable when the contract updates. Whilst the on-site solar is a brilliant step, it is important that the ‘back up’ electricity is not causing harm.
- We continuously take steps to reduce consumption – turn off switches, timer plugs for washing machines and dishwashers, and heated throws for our office staff in winter – heating the person not the building!
Waste:
- We have a comprehensive recycling system which means:
- Zero paper or card to landfill
- Zero soft plastics to landfill
- Zero glass to landfill
- Zero food waste to landfill
Reuse what we can:
- We create infill packaging from cardboard, thus reducing the need to purchase infill packaging and also prolonging the cardboards’ life before recycling
- Reuse boxes that come in for packing
- Our cleaning products are all in refillable bottles
- For most icing we use piping bottles, not bags
- Our baking trays are lined with reusable, silicone sheets negating the need for baking parchment.
Water consumption:
We cannot measure our water precisely as it is included with the rent and all buildings are in one but we are doing the following:
- Washing machine and dishwasher to use low water cycles
- Toilets and taps have been assessed for consumption and are acceptable for now.
Suppliers:
Wherever we can we work with small, local suppliers. This is important in terms of both environmental and social impact and is something we review on an ongoing basis.
- Fill Refill is a local company that supplies the majority of our cleaning products. They are environmentally friendly and operate a closed loop system so the packaging is returned and reused.
- Shipton Mill – UK company that supplies all our Organic flour
- LittlePod – fabulous small business from which we purchase vanilla
- Ohh Deer – LGBTQ+ owned business that supports artists. For all team gifting
- Free Range eggs and butter are from a local supplier
- Packaging – from the UK where we can
- Belly bands, labels and stickers – from a range of UK companies. All plastic free.
- Loo roll – from Bamboo Bobbi
Targets for the next 12 months:
- Move away from disposable or limited use cloths to reusable – tests currently occurring
- Remove single use piping bags from the bakery entirely
- Conduct a recycling contamination survey
- Report the contamination survey results to all the team and encourage positive engagement
- Continue to work with our landlord to decrease energy consumption, such as upgrading lights when they need replacing.
